About Omarama Airfield (NZOA)

Omarama is a small mountain community of 300 residents situated on the junction of State Highways 6 and 83 at the southern end of the Mackenzie basin. The village is within easy walking distance of the airfield and contains a range of accommodation and dining options for visiting pilots, a nine hole golf course and easy access to the outstanding trout fishing rivers and lakes in the immediate area.

Airfield Facilities

The Omarama Airfield is located in the southern corner of the Mackenzie basin, a few minutes flying time from Pukaki Airfield and less than an hour’s flying time from Mt Cook, Glentanner, Timaru, Oamaru, Alexandra, Wanaka, Queenstown and Dunedin.

The airfield facilities include generous grassed sheltered aircraft parking, AVGAS supplied by GoFuel, a substantial terminal with public toilets, a camping ground, hangar facilities, secure sheltered outdoor glider tie-down areas and a café.

Terminal Building

The terminal provides a venue for daily briefings, meetings, presentations, training seminars, competition management and the administration of the airfield and Omarama Gliding Club. Yoga and exercise classes are hosted as a feature of the summer soaring season.

Operational information relating to the airfield, the surrounding airspace and events is posted and flight following is carried out on a monitor. Limited kitchen facilities and public bathrooms are provided.
